A strong 6.4 magnitude earthquake has hit Taiwan today, according to reports.
The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed the reports, stating that a
quake hit Taiwan at about 3 p.m. ET on Friday, about six miles
underground.
The earthquake was located about 22 miles (36 kilometers) south-east of Yujing, according to the USGS.
It is not clear from any official reports how much damage there was
to the region or whether there were any deaths or injuries from the
temblor. However, in the aftermath of the earthquake there were numerous
people from the region posting photos on social media sites such as
Twitter showing various collapsed structures. Others showed buildings
knocked off their foundations.
Initial social media postings did not appear to claim any death toll or injuries, although reports are still coming in.
